An AI API relay (also called an API reseller or third-party API gateway) resells access to OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), and similar large model APIs. Going direct to the official API usually means an accepted card, a stable connection to the provider's region, and an approved account — all real friction. A relay handles the official account on its end, so you can top up and start calling the API right away, skipping the account setup entirely.
Why are relays sometimes cheaper than going direct?
Not every relay is cheaper than the official price. Some get pricing headroom from bulk purchasing, official rebate programs, or exchange-rate arbitrage, and pass part of that along. Others simply mark up the official price (a 1.5x or 2x multiplier) as their margin. The number to watch is the "multiplier" — a 2x multiplier means a $1 official call costs you $2.
Are API relays safe? Can my key get suspended or my account banned?
A relay is a commercial service, and a legitimate one is close to the official API in reliability. The real risks are: (1) a newer or smaller relay disappearing without notice — be extra cautious with unproven ones; (2) in rare cases the relay's own upstream account gets suspended, taking the whole service down with it; (3) a relay can technically see your request content, so route sensitive data through the official API directly. Test with a small top-up first, and spread usage across 2-3 relays as backup.
Which models do relays support?
